Special U.S. envoy Richard Norland met with the governor of the Central Bank of Libya, El Saddik El Kebir, to discuss the reconstruction of the city of Derna and other areas damaged by floods in September.

In a tweet following the meeting, Norland said, “I am pleased to follow up on the discussion about the reconstruction of Derna and other areas affected by the September floods with Central Bank of Libya Governor El Kebir and Georgette Gagnon from the UN Support Mission in Libya.”

He added, “Ambassador Brent and I are encouraged by the efforts being made to ensure that reconstruction funds are disbursed in a coordinated, transparent, and effective manner to meet the needs of the people of Derna and other affected communities.”

Norland concluded, “We, along with the UN Support Mission in Libya, the World Bank, and others, are ready to assist.”
