The United States has moved a draft resolution of the UN Security Council, in order to obtain a three -stage peace proposal presented by US President Joe Biden, and called for a commitment to Hamas to accept it.
The US ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield
said in a statement on Monday that the US has distributed a new US Security Council resolution supporting the proposal currently to end the fighting in Gaza by ceasefire in exchange for the release of the hostages.
“Many leaders and governments, including in the region, have supported this plan and we are calling on the Security Council to join them in an invitation to start implementing this deal without delay and without additional conditions,” Greenfield added in its statement.
During the Friday speech, Biden said that Hamas had exhausted its forces to a degree that was no longer able to carry out the type of attack that was seen on October 7 and that launched the current war.
The US President said that the Israeli proposal consisting of three stages to end the conflict in Gaza will link the release of the hostages and the ceasefire with a “complete form” in the Strip.
“In the end, this would lead to an end to the war in a way that guarantees Israel’s security and bring immediate comfort to civilians in Gaza,” Greenfield said in her statement.
“The Security Council must insist on accepting Hamas to the deal, and the members of the Council must not miss this opportunity. We have to speak with one voice in support of this deal,” she added.
In a related context, the White House said, on Monday, that US President Joe Biden urged the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, during a phone call, to “use all appropriate measures” to persuade Hamas to accept the Israeli proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza and an deal The hostages.
