The White House, through its spokesperson for the National Security Council, John Kirby, stated that a ceasefire in the ongoing Israeli assaults on the besieged Gaza Strip would not be the correct solution at the moment. Kirby elaborated that such a move would presently benefit Hamas, during his remarks on ceasefire efforts.
Responding to questions from journalists in Washington, and addressing calls for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, Kirby said, “We do not believe a ceasefire is the right solution now, we think a ceasefire now will benefit Hamas.”
Kirby pointed out that the United States welcomes a “temporary humanitarian truce” for evacuating civilians wishing to flee violence in Gaza and to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region, instead of a complete ceasefire.
In response to Russia’s failure to condemn an attempted attack on Israeli citizens at an airport in the Russian self-governing Republic of Dagestan, Kirby stated, “I think you all saw what happened in Russian Dagestan yesterday, it’s a horrific display of hatred, bigotry, and intimidation.”
For 24 days, the Israeli military has been launching intensive raids on residential neighborhoods in Gaza, with over 8306 fatalities including 3457 children, and 21048 injured, according to official data.
