The US military announced today (Saturday) the arrival of fighter aircraft to the area of responsibility of the US Central Command with the aim of enhancing air operations in the Middle East.
The US Central Command stated through the “X” platform (formerly Twitter) that “F-15E Strike Eagle fighter aircraft, belonging to the 494th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron, have arrived in the area of responsibility of the US Central Command,” as reported by the Arab World News Agency.
The Central Command emphasized that the arrival of these fighter aircraft is “to enhance the US presence and air operations in various parts of the Middle East.”
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said yesterday (Friday) that the United States is prepared to send more military aid to Israel. He added that ammunition, air defense capabilities, and other equipment and resources are “flowing rapidly” to Washington’s closest ally in the Middle East. Israel has pledged to crush Hamas, which governs the Gaza Strip.
Israel launched its most intense bombing campaign ever in Gaza after Hamas conducted a surprise and unprecedented cross-border attack on southern Israel on October 7. Israel is expected to intensify its response, which has already included dropping thousands of bombs on Gaza, as it prepares for a possible ground assault on the densely populated coastal enclave.
Austin told reporters in Tel Aviv, “The strike group… Gerald R. Ford is now in the region, led by the world’s largest aircraft carrier. We have bolstered our presence of US fighter aircraft in the Middle East… and we stand fully prepared to deploy additional assets if necessary.” The United States and other Western allies have pledged to support Israel in what Israeli leaders say will be a long-term war.
The deployment of US fighter jets to the Middle East comes in the midst of escalating tensions and military operations in the region, particularly in response to the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
