The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has characterized the ongoing situation in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the war as the largest displacement of the Palestinian people in history.
In a statement released on the “X” platform, reported by the Palestinian News and Information Agency “WAFA,” UNRWA stated that what has transpired in Gaza over the past hundred days represents “the most significant displacement of Palestinians since 1948.”
The agency highlighted that an entire generation of Palestinian children is suffering from trauma, with thousands having experienced death, mutilation, and orphanhood.
According to UNRWA, the continuous Israeli bombardment of Gaza has resulted in a death toll of 24,100, along with 60,834 injuries. This intense military action has led to the displacement of over 85% of the Gaza Strip’s population, amounting to approximately 1.9 million people.
This humanitarian crisis in Gaza has drawn international attention and concern, underscoring the severe impact of the conflict on the civilian population, particularly on children and the overall infrastructure of the region.
The UNRWA declared that the strip completed 100 days of a severe humanitarian crisis, characterized by death, destruction, and displacement. The situation in Gaza is a human-made disaster, the agency emphasizes, with the Palestinian population facing extreme adversity.
The ongoing conflict, which has now entered its fourth month, has resulted in the displacement of approximately 90% of Gaza’s population. Among these, 1.4 million people have sought refuge within UNRWA facilities.
