Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), has expressed his concern over the challenging situation in the Gaza Strip. Lazzarini conveyed this sentiment during a meeting with North Sinai Governor Mohamed Shousha at Al-Arish International Airport.
In the meeting, Lazzarini praised Egypt for its concerted efforts in delivering much-needed aid to the Gaza Strip, acknowledging the significant role played by the country in addressing the humanitarian crisis in the region.
Governor Shousha provided an overview of Egypt’s extensive initiatives to receive and distribute relief, humanitarian, food, and medical aid, including medicines and medical supplies, to the Gaza Strip through the Rafah border crossing in North Sinai.
Highlighting the various channels through which aid has reached the North Sinai governorate, the governor mentioned the land road, Al-Arish Port, and the international airport. He emphasized that North Sinai has received several thousand tons of diverse aid from Egypt, as well as various Arab and foreign countries, regional entities, and international organizations.
The collaborative efforts between Egypt and UNRWA underscore a commitment to addressing the pressing needs of the population in Gaza, reflecting the international community’s concern for the well-being of those affected by the challenging conditions in the region.
