A Sudanese authority deliberated, on Thursday, on intensifying the health-related operations of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in the Sennar state of southern Sudan.

The Sudan News Agency (SUNA) reported on Thursday, citing Ibrahim Al-Awad Ahmed Yousuf, the Acting Health Minister of Sennar state, his complete collaboration with UNICEF. He praised the agency’s efforts and its previous interventions in coordination with his ministry.

Al-Awad highlighted that the country is going through some of its most challenging times, emphasizing the necessity for seamless coordination, especially in the health sector, and support for the health system.

Meanwhile, directors of the general departments appreciated UNICEF’s efforts and interventions in several activities that have benefited the state’s citizens.

They confirmed their full cooperation in alignment with technical plans that support and enhance the health system.

Furthermore, Mutawalli Adam, the health official from UNICEF, confirmed their readiness to expand the organization’s health-related activities.

He pointed out a significant partnership with the Ministry of Health and Social Development in the Sennar state.

The United Nations (UN) recently hosted a ministerial-level meeting to discuss the ongoing crisis in Sudan. This initiative came in collaboration with Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the European Union (EU), and the African Union (AU).

It aimed to shed light on the challenges, funding shortages, and hurdles that obstruct the delivery and accessibility of humanitarian aid.

The goal of the meeting is to prompt member countries to bolster their support for the UN’s humanitarian response plans for Sudan and the surrounding region.

The delegates will deliberate on the repercussions of inaction and insufficient support, especially as the Sudanese crisis enters its sixth month with no apparent resolution in sight.
