In a statement released by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), it was revealed that over 400 children in Gaza are being injured or killed daily since the start of the escalation in hostilities.
The statement continued, “Over the past 18 days, due to the ongoing attacks on the Gaza Strip, 2,360 children have lost their lives, and 5,364 have been injured.”
According to UNICEF, more than 400 children in Gaza are suffering injuries or fatalities every day.
The statement further added, “Over 30 Israeli children have tragically lost their lives since the conflict escalated, with dozens more in captivity in Gaza.”
As the conflict in Gaza enters its 18th day since the commencement of Operation “Taufan Al-Aqsa,” the number of casualties continues to rise, and the humanitarian situation in the region worsens.
Violence escalated following a Hamas incursion into southern Israel on October 7 that left at least 1,400 people dead. More than 200 people are said to have been taken hostage by the militant group.
Israel has vowed “total destruction” in Gaza to wipe out Hamas militants, but international rights organizations have warned that the ongoing bombardment has led to a catastrophic humanitarian crisis.
Almost every child – roughly 50 percent of the population – in the Gaza Strip has been exposed to deeply distressing events and trauma, marked by widespread destruction, relentless attacks, displacement, and severe shortages of essential necessities such as food, water, and medicine, according to UNICEF.
