The UN Security Council confirmed that it will vote on Monday (New York time) on a resolution to renew the mandate of the United Nations mission supporting the Hodeidah Agreement in Yemen for another year until July next year. In a statement reviewing the agenda for the current week, the Security Council announced an open briefing session on Monday about the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, including the work of the United Nations mission for stabilization in the country.
The statement continued that the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the head of the UN mission there, Bintou Keita, will present a briefing tomorrow. The briefing session will be followed by closed consultations.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, members of the Council will listen to a briefing on Cyprus and the work of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus by the Special Representative and head of the peacekeeping force, Colin Stewart.
The Council will also hold its quarterly meeting on Colombia on Thursday, where the Special Representative and head of the UN Verification Mission in Colombia, Carlos Ruiz Massieu, is expected to give a briefing. The session may also receive a briefing from one of the signatories of the final agreement to end the conflict and build stable and lasting peace, signed in 2016 between the Colombian government and the former rebel group. The open briefing session will be followed by closed consultations.
On Friday, members of the Security Council are expected to vote on a resolution to renew the mandate of the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti. The Council will also hold its semi-annual briefing on West Africa and the Sahel region on the same day, reviewing the latest developments in the region by the Special Representative and head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel, Leonardo Santos Simao.
At the level of the Security Council’s subsidiary bodies, Slovenia will hold a meeting on Monday, in conjunction with the Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone, and Guyana, on “Intensifying Preventive Action: From Environmental Challenges to Opportunities for Peace.”
