The United Nations Security Council is set to hold a session today, Monday, focusing on the situation in Palestine. During the meeting, members will receive a briefing from the Senior Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Reconstruction in Gaza, as reported by the Palestinian News Agency.
In December of last year, the Security Council adopted a resolution calling for urgent steps to allow immediate delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and to create conditions for a ceasefire. Jorge Moreira da Silva, the Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), will also provide an informational briefing on the subject.
It is worth noting that UNOPS has been tasked with activating and managing the mechanism outlined in Resolution 2720.
Since October 7, 2023, Israeli occupation forces have continued their attacks on the Gaza Strip by land, sea, and air, resulting in 41,206 fatalities, most of whom are children and women. Additionally, 95,337 others have been injured. Thousands of victims remain trapped under the rubble, and emergency and civil defense teams are struggling to reach them.
