The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is set to hold its monthly session today to discuss the ongoing situation in the Middle East, with a primary focus on the Palestine issue.
Following the open session, a closed-door consultation is scheduled, as reported by Cairo News.
According to the Jordanian news agency “Petra,” the UN Secretariat is expected to brief council members on the latest developments in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
This briefing will cover both the political and humanitarian aspects in light of the ongoing Israeli aggression.
The session comes a day after US President Joe Biden held a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
During the call, President Biden emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, linked to the release of Israeli hostages. The upcoming talks in Cairo were described as crucial by the White House.
In a related move, the United States has ordered the deployment of a submarine equipped with guided missiles to the Middle East and expedited the arrival of the Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group to support Israel’s defense capabilities.
