The Libyan High National Election Commission (HNEC) announced an additional extension for voter registration in the first phase of municipal council elections.
This phase includes 60 councils out of 106 targeted for elections this year. Despite reports from local media suggesting an assault on HNEC Chairman Emad Al-Sayah following a seminar in Misrata, the commission did not address these claims, which were later denied by sources close to the interim Government of National Unity.
During the seminar, themed “Return to the Democratic Path in Libya,” participants discussed various aspects of the democratic process, focusing on the Misrata municipal council elections and increasing awareness about voter participation.
The seminar is part of ongoing efforts to support municipal elections, with voter registration having opened on June 9.
