United Nations Humanitarian Affairs Coordinator Martin Griffiths stated on Wednesday that international law should not discriminate between any parties accused of committing war crimes.
In an exclusive interview with Sky News Arabia, Griffiths emphasised, “We do not cooperate with Hamas in Gaza on aid matters, and there is no doubt that Hamas committed a terrorist act on October 7.” He further stressed that “Gaza should be governed by Palestinians after the war.”
Griffiths noted, “The war in Gaza is still far from over,” adding, “Famine is rampant in Gaza, and it is primarily affecting children.”
The UN humanitarian coordinator also stated, “We believe the casualty numbers coming from Gaza are accurate, contrary to Israel’s claims. There is direct targeting of UNRWA institutions in Gaza by the Israeli side.”
Griffiths praised the “highly positive” role of the United Arab Emirates in seeking a resolution for Gaza’s governance post-war.
International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Karim Khan told CNN that the court is seeking arrest warrants for Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity related to the October 7 attack and the Gaza war.
The war in Gaza has led to an unprecedented deterioration of living and humanitarian conditions, with many medical institutions going out of service due to continuous Israeli bombardment. There are significant difficulties in delivering aid to thousands of displaced people in the Gaza Strip.
