The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced on Wednesday that 99 Somali refugees have been voluntarily evacuated from Yemen back to their homeland.
The group, which includes women, men, children, and the elderly, chose to return to Somalia, with some having lived in Yemen for decades and others born there.
The UNHCR provided medical screenings and cash assistance to help those evacuated restart their lives in Somalia. This follows a previous evacuation of 153 Somali refugees from Yemen on September 10.
Tens of thousands of African migrants and refugees live in Yemen under extremely difficult humanitarian conditions, according to UN reports.
