Abdoulaye Bathily, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya and head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), asserted that his initiative to bring together Libyan leaders for dialogue has not failed, emphasizing the lack of stability in Libya after 13 years of change.
In a TV interview on Saturday, Bathily expressed that while Libyan leaders bear responsibility, they are inclined towards elections that safeguard their positions, detached from the aspirations of the people.
Bathily proposed uniting Libyan parties to form a comprehensive government, steering away from regional divisions. He criticized the interim national unity government, stating that it fell short of fulfilling the Libyans’ hopes for stability and development.
Cautioning against the risk of Libya’s fragmentation due to current divisions, Bathily urged swift resolution of the crisis, drawing parallels with the expanding Sudanese crisis into Libya. He called upon neighboring nations to collaborate in resolving the Libyan crisis to prevent further escalation.
The statement highlights the ongoing challenges in achieving stability in Libya and the urgent need for diplomatic efforts to address the complex situation.
