The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has issued a stark warning regarding the volatile situation in Sudan. In a statement made on Thursday, he called upon international and regional entities to contribute to halting hostile actions in the country, cautioning against the eruption of a civil war.

Guterres emphasized, “I urge international and regional actors to coordinate their efforts to compel Sudanese parties to cease hostile actions.” He stressed the crucial importance of collective measures in preventing the situation from escalating further.

The Secretary-General highlighted that the “rising ethnic mobilization could lead to a civil war in Sudan, which would have devastating impacts on its people and the region.”

The UN head confirmed that the unity of the Sudanese state and the stability of the region are at critical risk. “The time has come to lay down arms,” he said, emphasizing the immediate need for peace.

Guterres also noted that Rapid Support Forces have set up bases in residential areas within Sudan, raising further concerns about the complex and tense situation.

The UN Secretary-General’s warning comes at a crucial time for Sudan and neighboring regions, as the country teeters on the brink of civil unrest and potential conflict. Continued international monitoring and immediate action are essential to averting a larger crisis. Keep following for more updates on this developing situation.
