The UN special envoy for Libya, Abdullah Butali, has stressed the need to resolve outstanding issues in order to protect Libya from the risks facing it and the region.
This came in a blog post published by the UN envoy on his page on the social networking site “X” on Sunday.
Earlier, Butali met with the head of the Advisory Council of State, Mohamed Tekalla, in the presence of the first vice president of the council, Masoud Abed, and the council’s secretary-general, Belqasim Dabraz.
Butali said that he reviewed with Tekalla the developments of the situation in Libya, and stressed the need for Libyan leaders to participate in dialogue and agree on a political settlement in preparation for elections, referring to his invitation to the leaders of the five main institutions in November 2023.
Tekalla and Butali discussed during the meeting the efforts of the UN Support Mission in Libya and Butali’s initiative to hold a meeting for the Libyan parties to bridge differences, renounce disagreement, support national reconciliation efforts, and pave the way for a democratic path that is agreed upon by all.
