The United Nations (UN) has urged all countries to halt escalation in Ukraine amid reports of France’s plans to send two thousand troops to the region.
Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the UN, stated during a press conference on Tuesday, “First and foremost, I cannot confirm these reports, so I have no specific comment on that.”
He continued, “Our general stance is that we call on all countries to do everything in their power to achieve de-escalation on the ground (in Ukraine).”
Earlier on Tuesday, Sergei Naryshkin, Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, announced that France is preparing to deploy its forces to Ukraine, with an initial deployment of two thousand French troops.
France had previously stated that it did not rule out sending forces to Ukraine.
The Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), Sergey Naryshkin, has asserted that France is in the process of preparing a military contingent consisting of 2,000 troops for deployment to Ukraine.
Naryshkin conveyed that the current leadership of France appears indifferent to the potential risks and casualties associated with such an action.
“According to information obtained by the Russian SVR, preparations are underway for a contingent to be dispatched to Ukraine, initially comprising approximately 2,000 troops,” stated Naryshkin.
He highlighted the concerns within the French military regarding the feasibility of deploying such a substantial force without attracting attention.
