The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced today that the UN Emergency Relief Coordinator and Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Martin Griffiths, has allocated $100 million to support underfunded humanitarian emergencies in seven countries in Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas.

The crises in Sudan, Syria, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) top the list, each receiving $20 million.

OCHA said that funding received by the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) in 2023 was the lowest level since 2018.

While requirements last year rose to support around 250 million people worldwide affected by conflicts, natural disasters, and others, the fund received only less than 40% of this funding.
