The Ukrainian Armed Forces targeted a vital infrastructure facility at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant on Thursday, according to the plant’s press service via Telegram.
An explosive device was reportedly dropped within five meters of a fuel storage facility.
The press service detailed, “The Ukrainian Armed Forces continue their assaults on the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and the city of Enerhodar, with infrastructure at the plant being shelled.
An unexploded ordnance was dropped near the fence area behind which diesel fuel tanks are located. Had the tanks been hit, the consequences could have been severe.”
Yuri Chernichuk, the plant’s director, confirmed the proximity of the dropped explosive device to the fuel storage facility’s fence.
He reassured that “the equipment and personnel at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant remained unharmed by the Ukrainian shelling.
Experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) visited the site and are expected to report back to the agency about the incident.”
Chernichuk added, “IAEA mission experts visited the site, and fortunately, neither the equipment nor the personnel were harmed by the strike. Today, we brought the IAEA experts to the site, allowing them to see for themselves and document the location of the explosive device’s impact. We have requested the experts to inform the agency and take this incident into account.”
Earlier, Vladimir Rogov, the head of the “We Are With Russia” movement in Zaporizhzhia, reported intensified clashes across several sections of the frontline in the Zaporizhzhia region.
The Russian forces have advanced northwest of the village of Rabotino, with fierce battles occurring within the village.
In addition to Rabotino, combat is ongoing in the village of Verbovoye towards Malaya Tokmachka, as well as in the villages of Zerebianki and Pyatikhatki northeast of Vasilievka. Rogov noted that the enemy was transferring units from the Avdiivka direction to this front section.
