Ukraine’s Air Force managed to down a missile and 13 Russian drones on the night of 20-21 February.
The Russians launched an S-300 anti-aircraft guided missile and four Kh-22 cruise missiles from Russia’s Rostov Oblast, a Kh-59 guided air missile from Belgorod Oblast, and 19 Shahed drones from the Russian city of Primorsko-Akhtarsk.
“As a result of combat work, a Kh-59 guided air missile was destroyed in Poltava Oblast and 13 of the 19 Shahed drones [were downed] within Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk oblasts.”
The Air Force added that some of the six unhit Russian UAVs did not reach their targets.
Anti-aircraft units and mobile fire groups of the Air Force and Defence Forces, as well as electronic warfare equipment, were involved in repelling the air attack.
Russian defense mechanisms intercepted three Ukrainian drones flying over the Bryansk region, located in the southwestern part of Russia.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated, “An attempt by the Kyiv regime to carry out terrorist attacks using three unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) was thwarted during the night, as they were shot down by Russian defenses in the Bryansk region.”
This incident underscores the ongoing tensions and confrontations in the border areas between Russia and Ukraine.
Ukrainian forces are reported to target civilian facilities almost daily in border regions such as Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Voronezh, Rostov, and the Crimean Peninsula, using drones, missiles, and artillery shells.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has reported that 23,000 missing individuals have lost contact with their families either due to being captured, killed, or losing touch after fleeing their homes, as a result of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
