On Wednesday, Abu Dhabi-based investment giant (ADQ) entered into a strategic long-term partnership with the NAMA Initiative, a national program dedicated to reducing food loss and waste across the UAE.

This collaboration is set to develop innovative solutions and launch initiatives that span the entire food supply chain, from production to consumption. By addressing the root causes of food waste, the partnership aims to make significant strides in enhancing the UAE’s food security and sustainability.

The partnership between ADQ and NAMA is more than just a business collaboration; it represents a shared commitment to addressing one of the most pressing global challenges. Food waste is a critical issue, particularly in a country like the UAE, which imports the majority of its food due to its arid climate. By leveraging data provided by NAMA, ADQ will be able to identify key points where food loss occurs and pinpoint regulatory gaps that contribute to waste. This data-driven approach will enable both organizations to implement targeted solutions designed to reduce food waste effectively.

Mansour AlMulla, Deputy Group CEO of ADQ, highlighted the importance of this partnership in driving sustainable change: “As a major investor in the UAE’s food and agriculture sector, ADQ is deeply committed to balancing the need for adequate, affordable food production with the necessity of reducing waste. Our collaboration with the NAMA Initiative will not only spotlight the impactful programs already implemented but will also foster greater community engagement and support for these critical efforts.”

Kholoud Al Nuaimi, Chief Sustainability Officer at Emirates Foundation and Secretary-General of the NAMA Initiative emphasized the broader implications of this partnership: “Our joint efforts with ADQ are a testament to the power of public-private cooperation in achieving the UAE’s ambitious goal of halving food loss and waste by 2030, in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Together, we can drive meaningful change that will benefit our communities and the planet.”

As the UAE continues to enhance its food security strategy, ADQ’s extensive portfolio in the food and agriculture sector, which includes leading companies like Agthia, Sial, and the global fruit producer Unifrutti, will play a crucial role in supporting these efforts. The partnership with NAMA marks a significant step forward in the UAE’s ongoing journey toward a more sustainable and resilient food system.
