UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan arrived at Alamein International Airport on Monday for a multi-day visit to Egypt. His visit, primarily for his annual vacation, underscores the deep and strategic ties between the two nations.
The Union of Arab Tribes welcomed Sheikh Mohamed’s visit, emphasizing its significance in supporting Egyptian tourism. The Union’s statement highlighted that the UAE President’s repeated vacations in Egypt, particularly in New Alamein City, reflect the high-quality services Egypt offers to its guests, both from Arab nations and around the world.
Several Egyptian political leaders also expressed their support. Naji El-Shahabi, head of the Generation Party, noted that Sheikh Mohamed’s visit positively impacted Egyptian tourism. He emphasized that the visit reaffirms the strategic and enduring relationship between Egypt and the UAE, describing it as a cherished visit from a brother to his second home.
Sheikh Mohamed’s visit is more than just a vacation. It serves as a powerful message of solidarity and support for Egypt, especially during an escalating regional conflict. Ilariya Haris, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee in the Egyptian Parliament, stated that the visit underscores the UAE’s support for Egypt amidst growing regional tensions. She emphasized that this visit highlights Egypt’s pivotal role as a pillar of security and stability in the Middle East.
The visit also reflects the UAE’s commitment to bolstering its partnership with Egypt across various sectors, including security, economy, and development. Haris pointed out that enhancing this strategic partnership strengthens both nations’ capacities to address regional challenges and work together toward achieving stability.
The UAE and Egypt share deep-rooted historical ties that have fostered mutual economic growth. These relations are characterized by a shared understanding of regional and international changes and collaborative efforts to address regional challenges such as peace-building, stability, counterterrorism, and promoting intercultural dialogue.
The extended history of cooperation between the two countries has led to several significant projects that have spurred economic growth in both nations. One notable example is the recent agreement to launch the Ras El-Hikma City project on Egypt’s North Coast, representing the largest foreign direct investment in Egypt’s history.
Sheikh Mohamed’s visit to Egypt, particularly to New Alamein City, has been a recurring event. Last year, he spent his vacation on the North Coast, where he mingled with the public without security detail, capturing the affection and admiration of both children and adults. Such visits not only boost local tourism but also highlight Egypt’s safe and welcoming environment.
