The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has successfully mediated a significant captives exchange between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ukraine, leading to the release of 230 individuals. This latest exchange increases the total number of captives freed through UAE’s mediation efforts to 1,788, underscoring the nation’s pivotal role in international diplomacy.
The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) acknowledged the cooperation of both the Russian and Ukrainian governments in this mediation process, which comes just weeks after a previous exchange. These efforts reflect the UAE’s commitment to serving as a reliable mediator, dedicated to diplomatic solutions in resolving the ongoing conflict between the two nations.
This recent exchange marks the seventh successful mediation by the UAE this year alone. The Ministry credited the success to the UAE’s strong relationships and partnerships with both Russia and Ukraine, which have been crucial in facilitating these negotiations.
The UAE’s MoFA reiterated the country’s ongoing commitment to pursuing peaceful resolutions to the conflict. The Ministry stressed the importance of dialogue and de-escalation as essential components for resolving the conflict and alleviating its humanitarian impact.
In addition to the exchanges between Russia and Ukraine, the UAE’s mediation efforts have also played a critical role in a high-profile exchange between the United States and the Russian Federation in December 2022. This further highlights the UAE’s growing influence as a mediator on the global stage.
