US third seed Coco Gauff advanced to the semi-finals of the French Open by defeating Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur in a thrilling match.
Gauff, 20, displayed her maturity and mental strength to secure a 4-6 6-2 6-3 victory at Roland Garros on Tuesday.
The US Open champion is now set to face Polish top seed Iga Swiatek, who defeated her in the 2022 final, in the next round on Thursday.
Swiatek, aiming for a third consecutive title, cruised to a 6-0 6-2 win over Czech fifth seed Marketa Vondrousova.
Despite a strong start from Jabeur, Gauff maintained her belief in her game and capitalized on her opponent’s drop in performance.
Gauff faced challenges, including failing to convert a match point and saving a break point, before ultimately prevailing in the match. Her emotional celebration on the court highlighted the intensity of the battle she had overcome.
Reflecting on the match, Gauff acknowledged Jabeur’s resilience and aggressive play, emphasizing the need for her to adjust her game accordingly.
