Tunisian President Kais Saied submitted on Monday his candidacy for the upcoming presidential elections to the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE).
The presidential elections in Tunisia are scheduled for October 6, and it will be the first election held under the 2022 Constitution.
Saied has been in office since winning the 2019 elections and has announced that he will run for a second term.
Earlier, Farouk Bouasker, the head of ISIE, announced that the submission of candidacies for the 2024 presidential elections will start on Monday, July 29, 2024, and will continue until Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. without interruption.
Bouasker urged candidates to prepare their files completely to avoid the need for corrections and to add documents that might exceed the legal deadlines. He indicated that the authority will provide a receipt detailing the submitted documents and any missing ones.
He also stressed the necessity for the candidacy file to include essential administrative documents such as a birth certificate, proof of nationality, and a criminal record extract (number 3). Additionally, candidates must present a receipt for the financial guarantee of 19,000 dinars (approximately $6,200) for the public treasury, which is a proof of the candidate’s seriousness.
It is worth noting that on July 2, Kais Saied issued a decree calling Tunisian voters to the presidential elections, setting October 6, 2024, as the election date.
