Tunisia’s Minister of Economy and Planning, Samir Saïd, met with the United Nations’ Assistant Secretary-General, Abdullah Al-Dardari, who also serves as the Regional Director for Arab States of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The meeting was centered around enhancing the cooperation between the two parties, focusing on technical support for executing development programs, as well as sharing expert advice, ensuring that the initiatives align with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The official statement from Tunisia’s Ministry of Economy highlighted the importance of coordination among various ministries and public institutions. The aim is to ensure projects are executed successfully and achieve their desired economic, social, and environmental outcomes.
Discussions also touched on leveraging the diverse technical and financial mechanisms available through the UNDP, particularly those relating to environmental concerns, climate change mitigation, water scarcity, digitalization—especially in terms of financial transactions—strengthening the capabilities of local communities, the circular economy, and other areas.
Minister Samir Saïd praised the UNDP for its continued support to Tunisia in executing numerous development projects. He emphasized the country’s commitment to ensuring that its development plans for 2023-2025 are in sync with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. He further expressed an interest in tapping into the expertise and financial resources available through the UNDP, especially those pertinent to sustainable development.
For his part, Abdullah Al-Dardari confirmed the UNDP’s readiness to continue supporting Tunisia in addressing its developmental challenges and assisting in the execution of its programs. He commended Tunisia’s focus on aligning its development plans with the SDGs and expressed readiness to help Tunisia benefit from the various technical and financial mechanisms available through the UNDP, especially in priority areas discussed during the meeting.
