Tunisia celebrated “Tree Day,” an occasion aimed at promoting clean energy awareness and combatting climate change. The Tunisian government is intensifying its efforts to promote green energy projects, aligning with the country’s climate commitments.
Green initiatives in Tunisia are part of an ambitious plan to support energy transition projects and inject new investments into the green economy sector, contributing to the nation’s climate goals. As part of the new 2023-2025 development plan, the government has allocated 6.7 billion Tunisian dinars (approximately 2.134 billion US dollars) to support the green economy and address climate change, aligning with the major strategic pillars of the new development plan.
The new development plan, with total investments valued at 38.2 billion Tunisian dinars (approximately 12.17 billion US dollars), aims to achieve several key objectives, including a 2.1% growth rate and an increase in private investments to 57.6% by 2025.
This year’s “Tree Day” celebration coincides with the United Arab Emirates’ preparations to host the “COP 28” summit at Expo 2020 Dubai from November 30 to December 12, 2023. Egypt recently chaired the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 27), during which various climate-related issues, including global warming and environmental concerns, were discussed.
Many Arab nations are now placing increased emphasis on environmental preservation and awareness, encouraging tree planting, and fostering citizen engagement in these efforts. Regional and Arab meetings and conferences are being held to promote collaboration among countries to protect the environment.
The Tunisian government has consistently prioritized “Tree Day” as it contributes to raising public awareness about the importance of the event, especially in terms of reducing pollution and preserving the environment.
Alongside the celebrations, special events encourage citizens to plant trees, highlighting the benefits of green spaces in purifying the air and reducing pollution. Plans for the upcoming tree planting season are showcased, and preparations for collective tree planting activities are underway.
These celebrations provide a platform to discuss various topics related to agriculture and forests. It was announced that 129,000 tree seedlings would be planted, along with other allocations for tree planting. Additionally, 715 hectares of land are slated for reforestation.
The “Tree Day” celebrations extend across towns and cities in Tunisia, emphasizing the restoration of forest ecosystems and the mitigation of climate effects. Efforts like these underscore Tunisia’s commitment to environmental sustainability and green energy development, contributing to a more eco-friendly future.
