Tunisian Minister of Finance Saïda Boughdiri Nemsi said on Tuesday that her country has applied to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for a $70 million loan to develop the Tunisian Steel Company (TSC).

Nemsi said in a plenary session of the Tunisian Parliament that the Ministry of Economy submitted the request in the belief that it is a sound investment.

“The Tunisian government is committed to revitalizing the TSC, not only through this financing, but also by including support for the company on the agenda of the Tunisian-Saudi Joint Economic Committee,” Nemsi said.

The TSC is a major player in the Tunisian economy, providing steel products to essential sectors such as construction, manufacturing, and agriculture. It was founded in 1965.
