Tunisia’s vigilant maritime forces successfully intercepted and thwarted 18 illegal immigration attempts aimed at crossing the perilous Mediterranean Sea en route to Italy.

In a late-night operation on Monday off the country’s central coast, Tunisia’s National Guard rescued a total of 630 individuals from sinking boats, as reported by the Tunisian National Guard in a statement shared on its Facebook page.

The diverse group of illegal immigrants consisted of 550 individuals hailing from various African nations, alongside a portion of Tunisian nationals.

Situated along the central Mediterranean region, Tunisia has emerged as a prominent transit point for illegal migration attempts towards Europe.

While Tunisian authorities have been implementing stringent measures to combat this pressing issue, the influx of illegal immigration endeavors from Tunisia to Italy continues to witness an upward trend.
