On Saturday, Tunisian President Kais Saied dismissed Interior Minister Kamel Feki and Social Affairs Minister Malek Ezzahi in a significant cabinet reshuffle. This announcement was made by the presidency. In their place, Khaled Nouri has been appointed as the new Interior Minister, and Kamal Madouri will take over as Minister of Social Affairs.
The reshuffle also introduced a new role within the government: Secretary of State for National Security, which will be overseen by the Interior Minister. Sofiene Ben Sadok has been appointed to fill this newly established position.
This cabinet reshuffle follows a series of detentions that have occurred over the past two weeks, attracting scrutiny and concerns from international entities such as the European Union, the United States, and France. These countries have expressed their apprehensions regarding the arrests, leading to criticism from President Saied, who has voiced his disapproval of what he terms “unacceptable foreign interference.”
In response to the growing international attention, hundreds of Tunisians have shown their support for President Saied’s recent decisions. Last week, they gathered in front of the municipal theater and marched along Habib Bourguiba Avenue, voicing their opposition to foreign interference in Tunisia’s internal matters.
