TikTok is collaborating with major music streaming platforms such as Spotify, Amazon Music, and Apple Music to introduce a feature enabling users to save songs they encounter in TikTok videos directly to their chosen music streaming app.

This development reflects TikTok’s growing influence in the music industry, evident in the rise of new artists and its impact on music charts.

This influence was also a driving force behind Spotify’s recent TikTok-style app redesign, which introduced short-form content discovery feeds for music and podcasts.

The new feature, titled “Add to Music app,” will be accessible via an “Add Song” button located beside the track name at the bottom of TikTok videos in the For You Feed. This button allows users to save the song to their streaming music app of choice. The first-time users utilize this feature, they can select their preferred music service as their default.

While Apple Music wasn’t initially mentioned in TikTok’s press release, it was later confirmed by TikTok to be included in the feature, as evidenced in the provided screenshots.

For Spotify users in the U.S. and the U.K., the feature enables saving songs to the “Liked Songs” playlist.

Users can set their default music service upon their first use of this feature or through the “Music” section on the app’s Settings page. Spotify plans to expand this feature to additional markets over time.

The “Add to Spotify” button will appear in TikTok, allowing users to add tracks to Spotify as they scroll through the For You Feed or visit an artist’s Sound Detail page.

Amazon Music users in the U.S. and the U.K. will also have similar functionality, with TikTok songs being added to a “TikTok Songs” playlist or a playlist of the user’s choosing.

However, this feature on Amazon Music is exclusive to Prime members and Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers. In contrast, Spotify’s feature is available to both free and Premium users.

Apple Music, being a paid service, will offer this new feature exclusively to its paying subscribers.
