TikTok is reportedly experimenting with a new subscription model aimed at boosting its profitability by offering an ad-free experience.
While adopting subscription models is not unprecedented among social media giants, with platforms like Snapchat launching Snapchat+ and others introducing similar premium features, this would mark a novel venture for TikTok.
Speculation about TikTok’s subscription plans emerged after Android Authority identified new code strings in the app’s latest version, suggesting testing of a monthly ad-free subscription priced at $4.99.
However, TikTok has not formally announced any such plans, indicating that the ongoing tests, available to a select user base, might be experimental and subject to changes based on feedback and results.
Earlier, TikTok ventured into e-commerce with the introduction of TikTok Shop, furnishing various features for users, creators, and businesses, including allowing the integration of affiliate videos into user feeds.
Notably, the proposed ad-free tier might only eliminate TikTok-served ads, not influencer-based advertising content.
