The Thai government has decided to contribute a special donation of $50,000 to UNRWA’s urgent appeal for Gaza 2024, to provide life-saving support to Palestinian refugees. This contribution is in addition to an $80,000 donation made in October last year in response to UNRWA’s 90-day urgent appeal for Gaza.

Thailand’s Ambassador to Jordan, Suparak Prongthura, and his delegation, informed UNRWA’s office in Jordan of Thailand’s decision to donate today, Thursday. UNRWA welcomed this move, stating that “their timely financial contribution allows UNRWA to deliver vital services in the coming months to affected Palestinian refugees.”

“We are grateful for Thailand’s contribution at this critical time, responding to the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza. This aid will enable the purchase of water, food, and medical supplies urgently needed by the people in Gaza. The Thai government has been a significant humanitarian supporter of UNRWA, and we are proud to be their partner in serving Palestinian refugees during this time of need,” added UNRWA.

UNRWA’s Director in Jordan, Olaf Baker, stated: “Your contributions will directly save lives,” as reported by the Jordanian News Agency, Petra.

The Thai ambassador in Jordan praised UNRWA for its dedicated efforts in leading the humanitarian cause in and outside Gaza and called on the international community and all stakeholders to resume funding and continue effective support for UNRWA.

Thailand also reiterated the call for all parties to fully comply with their obligations under international law and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly concerning the immediate ceasefire, the release of all remaining hostages, including six Thai nationals, and the protection of civilians, refugees, humanitarian workers, UN staff, and humanitarian facilities and assets.
