Tesla, the trailblazing electric vehicle manufacturer, is gearing up for a landmark event in the automotive industry. On November 30, the company is set to deliver its highly anticipated electric pickup truck, the Cybertruck, four years after unveiling its prototype. Tesla’s quarterly report indicates that over 1 million Cybertrucks have been reserved. If all these reservations convert to actual orders, Tesla would be working for years to meet this robust demand, especially considering their current production capacity is estimated at around 125,000 trucks per year.
However, there are uncertainties regarding the truck’s pricing. Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, has admitted that manufacturing the Cybertruck is exceptionally challenging due to high costs. Car and Driver anticipates that the starting retail price could be around $70,000.
Musk recently tempered expectations about the Cybertruck, stating, “I just want to temper expectations with Cybertruck… It’s a great product, but it will take between a year and a year and a half to achieve significant positive cash flows.” This candid statement reflects the challenges Tesla faces in balancing innovation with profitability.
