A Syrian delegation, led by Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Mohammed Al-Khalil, arrived in Cairo on Tuesday. The delegation is in Egypt to participate in the 112th session of the Arab Economic and Social Council.

According to the Al-Watan newspaper, the Economic Committee meetings have commenced at the expert level, and preparatory discussions will soon begin at a higher level to adopt the agenda for the ministerial session.

Prior to this, a meeting of the Arab Ministerial Contact Group concerned with Syria took place in Cairo. Participants included foreign ministers from Syria, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Lebanon, as well as the Secretary-General of the Arab League.
A statement was issued by the committee affirming the resumption of the Constitutional Committee’s work, addressing the refugee crisis, supporting counter-terrorism efforts in Syria, the removal of illegitimate foreign forces from Syrian territory, and emphasizing the importance of preserving Syria’s territorial integrity.

This meeting comes at a critical time for the region, especially Syria. The key aspects discussed show a broad commitment towards solving pressing issues like counter-terrorism and the Syrian refugee crisis, as well as maintaining the territorial integrity of Syria.

The 112th session of the Arab Economic and Social Council is a significant diplomatic exercise that brings together senior officials from various Arab states. As these discussions evolve, all eyes will be on the outcomes and their potential impacts on Syria and the wider Arab world.

5 Workers Killed in Train Accident in Italy An empty passenger train hit railway workers at high speed close to a station in Italy, killing five people. Authorities revealed that the workers, aged between 22 and 52, were replacing part of a track outside the northern city of Turin when they were killed. They had been working on the line between Turin and Milan when the train went through Brandizzo station at a reported 160km/h (100mph). Mayor Paolo Bodoni stated that an investigation was under way. Meanwhile, two workers survived unscathed but were taken to hospital for observation. The reports said the train driver was treated at the scene for shock but later sent home. He is expected to be questioned later about the deadly incident. On its part, the Italian railway network (RFI) expressed its "deep sorrow" for the incident. It also sent its "deep condolences" to the families of those who died. Bodoni described the incident as "chilling" and a "huge tragedy". The mayor of Brandizzo, a small town to the north-east of Turin, said he would wait until the outcome of the inquiry but a communication error could not be ruled out.
