Sweden’s Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist in a recent radio interview, disclosed that Sweden has transferred eight self-propelled Archer artillery systems to Ukraine.
This military assistance highlights the ongoing support from Sweden to Ukraine amid the latter’s military needs.
Hultqvist emphasized the significance of this aid to Ukraine, noting that the Archer system, renowned for its mobility and accuracy, will be a crucial asset for the Ukrainian forces.
Back in mid-August, the Swedish government had pledged an additional military aid package to Ukraine, amounting to 3.4 billion Krona (equivalent to 314 million USD).
Discussions then had revolved around ammunition for military equipment supplied to Kyiv, including CV 90 infantry fighting vehicles, spare parts for Strv 122 tanks, and the self-propelled Archer artillery systems.
Since February 2022, Sweden has earmarked a substantial 22 billion Krona (approximately 2.16 billion USD) in support of Ukraine, with 17 billion Krona (around 1.67 billion USD) directed towards military aid.
The Archer self-propelled artillery systems are multi-mission 155 mm artillery systems, a hallmark of Swedish military engineering.
Noteworthy features of these systems include full automation of the loading process, consequently enhancing the rate of fire and reducing the crew requirement to 3-4 personnel.
This robust military support from Sweden comes at a crucial time for Ukraine, enhancing its artillery capabilities and marking a significant step in the international assistance extended towards bolstering Ukraine’s defense infrastructure.
