Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces military leader, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, commonly known as ” Hemedti,” held talks with the President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, regarding the situation in Sudan and efforts to halt the ongoing war in the country.

The meeting took place in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, where Hemedti provided a detailed explanation of the outbreak of the conflict in Sudan, ignited by remnants of the former regime with the assistance of their elements within the military leadership.

During the discussion, Hemedti also presented his vision for the Rapid Support Forces to support the war cessation efforts.

This includes building a new nation based on justice and equality and forming a single professional national army under a civilian democratic government to uplift the country and put an end to Sudan’s internal conflicts.

Hemedti expressed his gratitude to President Salva Kiir for his concern about the situation in Sudan and his understanding of the current conditions.

Kiir also participated in the emergency summit of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) held in Kampala.

The IGAD summit, held in Uganda’s Entebbe city, called on the conflicting parties to commit to dialogue and negotiations, an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, and an end to combat operations as a prelude to political dialogue.

The final statement reaffirmed that IGAD member states would employ all means and capabilities to ensure a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Sudan.
