The states of Khartoum and Gezira in Sudan are witnessing an escalation in military operations between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) across various regions.
On Saturday, the RSF claimed to have repelled a Sudanese army convoy north of Bahri, inflicting heavy casualties and capturing several military vehicles.
On Sunday, intense fighting was reported in the Managil area in southern Gezira. Sources indicated that the army had taken control of Al-Zakirin, north of Managil, amidst heavy aerial activity by the army’s warplanes.
According to a statement obtained by Radio Tamazuj from the RSF spokesperson, the Al-Gaili oil refinery was subjected to an aerial bombardment with explosive barrels on Sunday, resulting in the destruction and burning of several critical installations at the refinery.
The RSF warned that if such attacks continue, they would be forced to halt the flow of crude oil from the refinery.
Ali Majok, advisor to the RSF commander, confirmed to Radio Tamazuj that the refinery was directly targeted by military aircraft, causing significant damage to vital facilities.
Majok described the attack on the refinery as a regional and ethnic assault, which he claimed followed the Sudanese army’s defeat in Saturday’s battles.
Radio Tamazuj attempted to contact the Sudanese army for comment, but communication was unsuccessful.
