The spokesperson for the Sudanese Armed Forces, Brigadier Nabil Abdullah, has vehemently denied any rumors of coup attempts within the country, affirming the military’s cohesion and resilience. Abdullah’s statement came in response to circulating rumors, emphasizing that the armed forces remain united and victorious under the leadership of Sovereignty Council President and Commander-in-Chief, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
Abdullah dismissed the rumors as baseless, reflecting the desperation and deceit of the rebel militia, which he said has failed and will continue to fail in its attempts to undermine the country and the military.
Dismissing “Lies”
The spokesperson further clarified that there have been no coup attempts and no military zones have fallen into the hands of the Rapid Support Forces. He specifically refuted reports claiming the fall of Babanusa and the Engineers Corps area in Omdurman as complete falsehoods.
This clarification comes amidst speculations that emerged earlier this month about a potential coup in Omdurman and the arrest of numerous army officers, all of which the military has categorically denied.
Ongoing Conflict
Since mid-April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in a devastating war between the army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces, commanded by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo. Efforts by international and regional entities to mediate the conflict and bring the two sides to the negotiating table have so far been unsuccessful.
The persistent clashes have resulted in the displacement of nearly two million people, including over 476,000 who have fled to neighboring countries, according to the International Organization for Migration, a UN agency.
