In a significant development in the 10-month-long conflict, the Sudanese army announced its first major advance by reclaiming control of a portion of Omdurman city from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
On Friday, the army reported the successful connection of its two main bases in the city, triggering celebrations among soldiers and local residents. The regained control marks a notable achievement for the army in the ongoing struggle for dominance.
However, the RSF promptly refuted the army’s claims, accusing them of resorting to propaganda amid what they alleged to be an imminent defeat.
“The army has turned to propaganda as it is on the verge of defeat,” stated the RSF media office in a released statement.
The conflict, spanning since April, has seen the RSF and the army vying for control in Sudan. The prolonged war has resulted in a substantial loss of life, with thousands killed, nearly 8 million displaced, and a looming threat of famine prompting international concern.
