Lieutenant General Shams al-Din Kabbashi, a member of Sudan’s Sovereign Council and Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, declared that the army is mobilizing to “completely resolve the chaos” in the country and will continue to combat until the last mercenary, as reported by Agence France-Presse.
Addressing a graduation ceremony for a group of Sudan People’s Liberation Army fighters led by Darfur’s governor, Minni Arko Minawi, under the armed forces’ command in eastern Sudan’s Gedaref, Kabashi emphasized that all members of the armed popular resistance must operate under the army’s banner. He stated firmly that the army would not tolerate any political affiliations or entities within the popular resistance.
Furthermore, Kabashi stressed that weapons must only be distributed from recognized camps, rejecting any arms provided by individuals with political ties outside these camps.
He outlined the army’s intensified efforts to clear areas of Khartoum and nearby regions, with plans to extend operations to Darfur.
The war between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary RSF has left 18 million people – more than a third of the population – facing acute food insecurity.
Most of them are in conflict hotspots in the Darfur and Kordofan regions and in Khartoum and Al Jazirah states (eastern Sudan).
Last month, the UN World Food Programme (WFP) said it has only been able to deliver vital aid to 10% of those in need in areas embroiled in the conflict, like Darfur.
