Sudanese Finance Minister Jibril Ibrahim stated on Friday that Russia is interested in securing access to the Red Sea, adding that Sudan does not object to having “friends and partners” along its Red Sea coast.
In an interview with Russian “RT” television, he clarified that the proposed Russian presence on the Sudanese coasts does not entail military experts or a base. Instead, it involves a “service point” that would allow Russian ships to access the Red Sea shores, dock, and obtain necessary supplies.
Ibrahim mentioned that Sudan does not oppose the Russian presence, but the resistance comes from the West, America, and their allies. He noted that Sudan’s Red Sea coast “has room for everyone,” suggesting that if America wants to buy a similar point, it could.
Furthermore, sources stated that the Russian presence should not exceed 300 individuals, and the number of ships should not exceed four at any one time.
