Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council, First Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh, current IGAD chairman, deliberated on the developments in Sudan and bolstering mutual cooperation between the two countries.
The Sovereignty Council’s media office stated today that Burhan and Guelleh held an official meeting at the presidential palace in Djibouti’s capital, where they reviewed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and develop relations further. The discussions also touched on the recent developments in Sudan due to the rebellion by Rapid Support Forces against the Sudanese state.
The talks included enhancing security and stability in the region, along with various issues of mutual interest. Burhan emphasized that Sudanese-Djiboutian relations are distinguished, deeply rooted, and advancing in all fields.
Burhan provided an explanation to the Djiboutian President about the repercussions of the Rapid Support Forces’ rebellious attack against citizens and the destruction of the state’s infrastructure, highlighting efforts made by Sudan to establish peace in the country.
“The success of the upcoming IGAD summit on Sudan and finding a solution to the Sudanese crisis is our hope,” said the Chairman of the Council, expressing his wishes for security, stability, and solutions for all IGAD countries’ problems, including Sudan’s crisis, under Djibouti’s IGAD presidency.
The Djiboutian President welcomed the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council and his accompanying delegation, praising Sudanese-Djiboutian relations and affirming his commitment to Sudan’s sovereignty, security, stability, and non-interference in its internal affairs.
Guelleh confirmed Djibouti’s readiness to offer any assistance and solutions through its IGAD presidency to resolve the Sudanese crisis, supporting all proposed initiatives. He also appreciated the roles of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United States, the African Union, and IGAD in resolving the Sudanese crisis.
