Sudan declared yesterday an agreement to hold an emergency summit “soon” of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in Djibouti, aimed at devising a “clearly defined” roadmap to resolve the Sudanese crisis.

This development emerged from two separate meetings in Djibouti, involving Sudan’s Sovereignty Council Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Djibouti President and current IGAD chair Ismail Omar Guelleh, and IGAD’s Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu.

According to a statement from Sudan’s Sovereignty Council, “Burhan and Djibouti’s President held a bilateral discussion session during which they reviewed the evolving situation in Sudan.”

The statement quoted Burhan saying, “We hope for the success of the upcoming IGAD summit focused on Sudan and to find a solution to the Sudanese crisis.” He added, “We are in favor of stopping the war and conflict and returning to normal life for the Sudanese people.”
