The South Korean government has unveiled its ambitious plan to attract 300,000 foreign students by the year 2027, with the aim of bolstering the competitiveness of its local universities and addressing the declining number of educated populations.

In pursuit of this goal, the country’s Ministry of Education held a meeting with relevant ministers and stakeholders on Wednesday to discuss a range of strategies aimed at achieving this objective.

According to the official news agency “Yonhap,” the ministry aims to increase the number of foreign students in academic programs from 124,000 to 220,000, thereby propelling South Korea into the ranks of the world’s top 10 countries for international student enrollment.

It was noted that the ministry plans to establish an attraction center for foreign students within Korean education centers abroad, while also easing admission requirements such as Korean language proficiency.

The same source also reported that the Seoul government plans to enhance Korean language and culture education for foreign students by establishing language education centers tailored to each region.

Moreover, they are exploring the possibility of offering national scholarships to more students coming from countries like the UAE and Poland, as well as from nations with a high demand for economic cooperation.
