In a recent session at the Davos forum, Saudi Arabia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Kingdom‘s Climate Envoy, Adel Al-Jubeir, emphasized the nation’s longstanding advice to the world about the need to diversify energy sources.

Al-Jubeir pointed out that this warning has been in place since the 1970s, highlighting Saudi Arabia’s foresight in energy matters.

During his speech, Al-Jubeir stressed that fossil fuels would continue to play a significant role in the global energy landscape for many decades to come. He firmly stated that the idea of completely phasing out fossil fuels is not practical at present.

Al-Jubeir also criticized what he termed as unrealistic global expectations being marketed about the future of energy. He called for a more balanced and realistic approach, pointing out what he described as “hypocrisy” in some global stances towards oil.

Further elaborating on Saudi Arabia’s energy strategy, Al-Jubeir announced the Kingdom’s plans to develop nuclear energy.

“We will enrich uranium and offer you clean nuclear energy just as we supply oil and gas,” he declared, signaling a significant shift towards diverse and cleaner energy sources in the Kingdom’s future energy mix. This move underlines Saudi Arabia’s commitment to balancing energy security with environmental sustainability.
