Saudi Arabia’s Energy Minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, affirmed that the Kingdom has completed the foundational administrative preparations for nuclear regulatory oversight and compliance with the comprehensive safeguards agreement, as the country continues to implement its national nuclear energy project.
Speaking during the 68th session of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) General Conference, held on Monday in Vienna, the Minister emphasized Saudi Arabia’s commitment to nuclear safety and readiness. He announced that the Kingdom plans to host an international conference on nuclear and radiological emergencies, organized by the IAEA, in Riyadh by the end of 2025.
“We look forward to international cooperation to ensure the success of this conference, contributing to global efforts in addressing nuclear and radiological emergencies, in line with the IAEA’s initiatives and its International Incident and Emergency Centre,” the Minister said.
He further highlighted Saudi Arabia’s participation in enhancing the capabilities of the global radiological monitoring and early warning systems, offering the Kingdom’s national expertise in this field to the international community.
Prince Abdulaziz noted that Saudi Arabia is pleased to contribute to the IAEA and the International Incident and Emergency Centre’s efforts, particularly in predicting the environmental impacts of nuclear and radiological incidents, and expressed the Kingdom’s pride in playing an active role in this domain.
