Saudi Arabia and Iran are engaging in consultations over regional developments, as the geopolitical landscape in the Middle East grows increasingly tense.
On Wednesday, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Riyadh.
The discussions focused on bilateral relations and the latest developments in the region, according to Saudi state news agency, SPA.
This meeting comes against the backdrop of a broader regional conflict, particularly the escalating tensions surrounding Iran.
On the same day, US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a phone call discussing potential responses to Iran. According to the White House, the 30-minute conversation was described as “direct and constructive,” with US Vice President Kamala Harris also participating.
The White House emphasized the need for full coordination and transparency between Washington and Tel Aviv, especially as concerns about Iran’s influence in the region continue to grow.
While the Biden administration focused on maintaining a united front with Israel, the US State Department expressed deep concern about the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza.
These concerns come amid rising fears that any military response to Iran could further destabilize the region, particularly affecting already volatile areas like Lebanon and Gaza.
In a related development, Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri criticized the lack of progress in halting Israeli military actions in Lebanon.
Speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat, Berri lamented that although the US claims to support Lebanon, it has done little to stop Israeli aggression. This adds to the growing frustration in Lebanon, where ongoing Israeli airstrikes have worsened the political and humanitarian crises in the country.
