In a recent incident, a Russian warship fired warning shots at a dry cargo ship flying the flag of Palau in the southwestern Black Sea. The ship, named “Sukru Okan,” was en route to Ukraine’s port of Izmail when the Russian Vasily Bykov patrol ship took action.

The Russian defence ministry stated that the warning shots were fired after the Sukru Okan’s captain did not respond to a request to halt for an inspection. The shots were discharged using automatic weapons.

Following the warning shots, the Russian military used a Ka-29 helicopter to board the vessel. After completing their inspection, the Russian team allowed the Sukru Okan to continue its journey to the port of Izmail.

This incident highlights the tension and maritime activities in the Black Sea region.
